The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. NSS was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. The ideological orientation of NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Education through service is the purpose of NSS with the motto NOT ME BUT YOU. NSS provides opportunity to the youth of 11th & 12th Classes, students of technical education, graduate and post graduate students in colleges and universities to take part in various government led community service activities and programmes.

The NSS Unit (Unit number : 391) of GMHSS CU Campus is established in the year 2008, with KT Dinachandran (HSST History) as the programme officer. The Unit functions with 50 students being enrolled every academic year. As a recognition for its valuable contributions to areas like organic farming & medical field, the unit has got many awards on different occasions.
